The story behind Millbrig...
Millbrig...homegrown live, and from the studio at Downies, a creative mix of original lyrics and shadows reflecting the dangerous rocks, and the dark, brooding North Sea...

Long ago, when music venues, grand hotels, and pubs welcomed both rock music and leather-clad customers, Steve Allan played guitar in rock bands in the North-East of Scotland. After a while he retreated to Downies, a slave to capitalism, but remained committed to his deep relationship with music by writing and recording from his fisherman's cottage. He updated his tech skills - and blended these with the haunting sounds from his acoustic instruments, and low-D whistle, uploading his folk/rock tracks, as Yorlum.
One day, in 2016, Steve met Penny at Musa cafe's open mic night. Somehow, on the tiny stage amongst walls plastered with art, and glasses full of wine, they hit it off. They got together and wrote new material, and performed as Millbrig at various folk clubs and folk festivals in Aberdeenshire. After making two albums, Millbrig and Planets Collide, Penny disappeared for a while, but Steve carried on writing, producing, and dropping tracks, more latterly as the Honey Barrel Blues Band. The guy is unstoppable.
Recently they finally moved in together, and are now based in the Cairngorms. They are lucky enough to have a decent recording room, interlinked studio, and separate art space, which allows them both to explore their creativity to the max. However, although Penny is the main wordsmith, Steve is still the techno wizard charged with all things computerized, before they drop their new Millbrig tracks onto Spotify etc., one at a time.

Thanks to Jim McWhirter for this photo - it's hard to play and fumble with a camera at the same time...but somebody had to do it!
